First sentence: Fridays are the best days of the week. That's when Rhoda begins her weekends with Grandpa Toppy!

Premise/plot: Rhoda's Grandpa Toppy is famous wildlife artist Charles R. Knight. Readers learn more about him and his life work through the eyes of his granddaughter.

My thoughts: This is a nonfiction picture book. It doesn't fall into a traditional narrative pattern for a picture book biography. Readers learn facts about Charles R. Knight sure enough, but not in traditional way. He may

This book has so much potential! There is a lot of great information and illustrations. But the author got bogged down in making this an autobiography and so the narrative is choppy and does not have a real overarching story. I want to love this book, but I also want it to have 1/3 fewer words and more of Toppy's artwork incorporated.

Rhoda loves spending time with her grandfather. Based on true stories about artist Charles R. Knight and his granddaughter.
They visit the Natural Museum and Central Park Zoo to see the animals. Knight painted prehistoric and modern animals.

This book has a lot of heart, but it's a little slow-moving. There's not much of a storyline since it's mostly reminiscences. Younger kids will likely get bored reading it, but it's a fascinating tale. Hopefully older kids or kids that are into art will enjoy this book.

An interesting take on biography perspective, love the grandfather/grandaughter interaction, a very interesting artist who was legally blind and very cool that the illustrator has strong connections.

I learned a bit about Charles R. Knight, but the text is basic and lacks spark.
